Soul of the Poet
These are the poems written by the poet.....
POET
In memory of Robert Lee Frost
There are not words enough,
To deeply say or yet express
What comes to mind and know
For my poem says it's best
About my fellow poet.
Honors were bestowed upon you
For what you've said to us in words.
yet it's not enough
For what we read or heard
About you my poet.
Hope was very little proclaimed
To a world filled with darkness and gloom.
You used poetic expressive fame
To light up even the darkest room
My poet.
And when you came to the end
Of life's journey to be fold.
You kept us going for years my friend
Through your poetry and fame told
My dear, dear, poet.
(C) 1997 Poem in honor of my favorite poet
NIGHT POEM
the splendor of night,
makes it seem so wonderful,
such is a delight that makes up this moment.
I can see the moon hanging high,
the stars twinkle with grace
lighting up the heavenly skies
as it shine at a moment like this.
still is the night my friend,
let's make the best of it.
and so let the night begin a festival of lights in the sky.
o the splendor of the night,
such a wonderful night it is.
Wake Up! Wake Up!
Politicians-
Wake up from your sleep
Of political thinking
High prices, high taxes
And back breaking
It's time to wake up!
Preachers- -
Wake up from your sleep,
Preaching sermons of greed
Blinded by the LIGHT
Practicing in the world of sleaze
It's time to wake up!
Mother- -
Wake up from your sleep
Of finding that man
To pay for all your problems
Then away he goes
Away he ran
For it's time to wake up!
Teachers- -
Wake up from your sleep
Of educating young minds
Wasting
Their lives away
With them it's hard to find
It's time to wake up!
Father- -
Wake up from your sleep
Of being a runaway man
Stand up for yourself
And don't lie down but STAND
'Cause it's time to wake up!
Wake up! Wake up!
Sleeping time is over.
He that sleeps too long
Will miss God at work.
Your very life uncovered
For it's time to wake up!
WAKE UP!
WAKE UP!
WAKE UP!
WAKE UP!
WAKE UP!
GET UP!
WAKE UP!
GET UP!
WAKE UP!
GET UP!
WAKE UP!
GET UP!
GET UP!
WAKE UP!
WAKE UP!
WAKE UP!
WAKE UP!
Bridges
No matter the distance
Between us in miles,
No matter the lifespan,
Spread all the while
No matter the challenges,
Given from time to time.
And no matter the sadness,
For joy isn't hard to find.
No matter how many or few friends,
Or enemies surrounding you.
But no matter what may before,
There are bridges between us
And for this I tell you true,
The best bridge gap to us Is PRAYER.
soul of the poet
True Self
I cannot hide my true self
For my true self is who I am
For who I am is my true self.
Why must I destroy myself?
But bleach my body
Destroying my skin
Killing of my true self.
And must I please myself
Tease myself
Satisfying myself
Until it comes down to
Being myself
Not fooling myself
Me.
Myself and I
Then to think
It's better for myself
No matter what.
Cheat myself
Beat myself
Lie to myself
But not be myself
Of whom I am
And whose I am---
It's a sad case
A sad case indeed
To not work on myself
For there to betterment of myself
And not poison myself
Until I die and shrink
Shallow up
Disappear
Gone
Swell up
Bust right open
Like a raisin.
Poof!
Pow!
Ssssssss!
But I got to be true to myself
For who I am
And all that I am going to be
And yet stay true to myself
For me and nobody
Else
Me
With beautiful self--
ME!
Myself
My true self
I love.
Dark Skin Sister
To W.P.
Dark Skin
Sister of another time
I see you
I like you
Dark Skin
Sister. Hair Long,
Beauty strong,
Capturing my heart
As I watch your
Every mood
Every move,
Dark Skin Sister.
Your attitude
A certain proud ness of self
I like
But don't change!
Baby
Don't change
A
Thang!
You are because of whose
You are.

Urban Life
AS THE HEARTBEAT OF THE CITY
Beats like a drum,
AS THE HEAT RISES, I AIR
And surrounds the city.
LISTEN TO THE HEARTBEAT
As the city grows
AND EXPANDS MORE AND MORE,
WELCOME TO URBAN LIFE!
SMOKESTACKS fills the air
AND THE CITY BEGINS A JOURNEY LIKE NO OTHER.
WELCOME TO THE URBAN LIFE!
CRIME
Has no friends
BUT NOTHING WHAT'S IT GOOD FOR
TROUBLE!
WELCOME
TO
URBAN
LIFE!
SUNDAY SHOES
inspired by my wife Vanessa
Can you walk a mile
In my Sunday shoes?
Go to places I've been long and wide
Or some places you'll pay your dues?
Can you wear my shoes
That danced in God's praises
Cutting a step or two
Head reared back and voice raises high
Those old dusty Sunday shoes.
I walked places far as well a near
And back again to anywhere
To any place I want to go from here
And then again.
To marches long for freedom's cry
To church on a dusty country road
To the fields where cotton grow high
In my old dusty Sunday shoes.
Can you just walk in
These old dusty shoes?
Being foe or either friend
In those old dusty shoes.
If i have to walk to hell and back
I would in these dusty old shoes
But I only walk to church in them in fact
These old dusty Sunday shoes.
I'll keep walking in them until
The Good Master calls me home
Hoping someone will someday fill
These old dusty Sunday shoes.

Freedom Cry
in memory of the children of SOUTH AFRICA
Freedom!
Lifted out of the ashes and into a river of hope
A river of joy
A river of peace.
CRY FREEDOM!
FREEdom!
As a country dies
And children die because of
What they believe in
Cry freedom!
Freedom!
You jail them in your jails,
You murder them,
Torture them,
Burn their schools and home
But we still
Cry freedom!
FreedOM!
YOU CAN DO ALL THESE THINGS
AND MAKE SPOils of it
And yet tell them THEY ARE NOT FREE
BUT WE WILL WITH ALL OUR HEARTS--
Cry freedom!
Freedom!
NO MATTER THE STRIFE
Feeling POWERLESS at times
WHEN there IS NO POWER
But yet we will forever---
Cry freeDOM!
Freedom!
You break us down
Break our spirits
But we forever
CRY freedoM!!
Midnight Sun
Beautiful light,
Glowing in the night,
As the city sleeps away,
Waiting for the following day,
Night's players play,
And to be hiding everywhere,
Stealing with things from one another
And from people's homes and ripping off brothers,
For a piece of money---
GREED!
The midnight sun
Burns shinning over everyone,
Glowing in the night.

Soft Music Serenade
Soothe me
Groove me
Making my nature rise
Even in four part harmony,
As the music rocks me to sleep,
And in that time of slumber deep,
The night's wonderful sounds so,
Sweet, tasty and even bold,
With that soft music SERENADES, me
OH, so right and so deeply.
The night music has a flair,
For just soothing you and like the Staple Singers it will "Take You There."
Soft and sweet,
Sweet and softly but deep,
You make my heart flutter so,
Because that's the way love goes,
Soothe me.
Groove me,
Make my nature rise,
Even in four part harmony,
As the music rocks me to sleep,
And that time of slumber deep,
Rock my world with your music
Sweetly, sweetly soothe me....
TOO COOL
TO MY BROTHERS KEVIN AND VINSON
I'M SO COOL.
I'M SO COOL 'TIL COOL IS MY MIDDLE NAME.
BEING COOL IS THE ONLY WAY TO BE IN FACT,
IF YOU'RE NOT COOL THEN YOU'RE A SQUARE.
I DON'T HANG WITH SQUARES AT ALL
BUT THE COOLEST OF PEOPLE AROUND.
I'M SO COOL,
I'M SO COOL 'TIL IS MY MIDDLE NAME
YES, COOL IS THE BEST TO BE NOW A DAY
I'M SO COOL!

Beautiful Faces
Beautiful faces
From every shade of color
From every span of the globe
From every walk of life
From every generation
From every faith,
From all types of places
From every nook and cranny
Of every place,
These are the beautiful faces
Of God's rain bowed shaded
Globe
That spins around and around
On this planet
Called
Earth.
CoLoR BLiNd
I am a man-
No matter the color
No matter the race
No matter the time or place
I AM A MAN!
I am CoLoRlEsS-
No matter if I am WHITE
No matter if I am BLACK
But this is a fact
I AM A MAN!
I am human-
No matter who we are
No matter the boundaries
I am color blind you see
And I AM A MAN!
No matter how you are
Rather black or white
Dark or light
A brown or gray,
I AM A MAN!

Poem 2 The Masses
To all who may hear me...
Get it straight from the heart
From this poet
Who dreams as dreamers do,
Watching the clock of time tick away
The hours so new.
And yet we are or seem to be far from u,
Just take a look in the mirror
Look what do u see?
And your response is 2 me that I SEE U!
To all who may see me....
An artist,
A teacher,
A little hope in someone's life
To brighten like days of sunshine and sunrise and sunsets
The nights and days,
The happiness and sorrows of it all
I see u before yourself.
Check in the mirror....
What do u see?
What do u see?
I asked u once more and u just looked at me with eyes of pain
And just sighed looked at me with great sadness.
To all who may BELIEVE....
FATHER, SON, HOLY GHOST!
No one comes before or between them.
Just those three alone is all we need.
Do u believe?
God is Father,
Jesus is Son,
Holy Spirit is the Comforter,
Do u believe?
To those who HOPE....
Peace in this world,
Peace to u,
And peace for me.
Will there be peace?
My hope is build on God's peace
The peace He only gives us through the Holy Ghost.
To those who love...
Poets and dreamers and artist and musicians
All talked of love and hope to bring it to this TASTELESS, dry
Unforgiving world we live in
And so with that thought
I ask a simple question,
WHERE IS THE LOVE?
I
poet
Gives
This
Poem
To
The
Masses!

Rain
Shower me
Wash me clean
Let your rain shower me
Wash me redeem
My soul so I be made whole
Once more
And more
And once more be clean.
Let it rain
Let it pour out on me
Let it rain
Let it drench my very soul
Clean up anything that's not clean
Once more
And once more be clean.
Make me whole
Make me whole again
Within me inside out
Make me whole
In my life let it be pleasing
To You so that
Once more
And once more be clean.
Shower me
Wash me clean
Let your rain shower me...

Small Still Voices
To every child born and unborn
Small faces,
Faces of future places,
From war torn countries
To a land that's free,
We celebrate these souls.
The future is yours little ones
And before your life is done
We celebrate you
Your whole life through
We celebrate these little souls.
To those ones who are here
Strong and healthy little dears,
To the ones who aren't born yet
We won't forget
You as well those little souls.
Small still voices of our times
The youthful hearts so lovely and kind
We hear you from the distant cry
And when we think of you we know why
You are our dear little souls.
POEM #12
IN MEMORY OF LISA "LEFT EYE" LOPES
IN HOPES THAT YOUR SLEEP
WILL BE THE BEST EVER
A SLEEP THAT'S ETERNAl
IN HOPES YOUR SOUL BE AT REST.
FIRST, HOPING THAT YOU KNOW CHRIST
SECOND, YOU RECOGNIZED WITH OTHERS
IN HOPES YOUR REST IS AT PEACE.
WE WILL MISS YOU
YOUR CRAZINESS
YOUR TALENT SO GRAND
WE WILL MISS YOU DEARLY.
LIZA YOU ARE LOVED
I PRAY YOUR SOUL TO BE AT REST.

00:13: Train Ride Inspiration
The night train moves
Quickly in the night's air
And the noise from the train
Keeps a steady beat lugging home.
I gotten a buzz of inspiration
Sweet inspiration from other poets
And their words expressed
To make me write these lines even now.
Good vibrations
Not like the Beach Boys
But perhaps more lyrical
Like Langston, Nikki, and yes Butterfly as well.
Inspired in lyrical soundbites
Feeding my very soul deep inside.
Makes me wanna hollar
Shout it to the world
I gotten bitten by the Poetic Bug
An inspiration that's catchy
To make me write like this....

Love Tried Tested and True
See Him now
On a tree dying
Dying for your love.
He just wanted to share
That love
With you as His blood stretched hands
Are opened wide
And he dies for you and you
And me.
Look at Him now--
A sinless man,
Not guilty of crimes He made
But He died for you and you
And me.
This love springs HOPE,
This love springs PEACE,
A love worth dying for,
Even on a tree
A love
Tried tested and true.

Untitled Verse
There's a love worth waiting for,
A warm body next to me,
A love so close as close can be,
A love I surely truly, truly adore.
Those kisses so sweetly on my lips,
I still feel night after night.
The slight touch of your finger tips,
Touching me so and so right.
The way you talk to me sweetly,
Brings chills to my spine,
Knocking me baby love to my knees
Knowing that you are mine!
Sweet of sweetness I do love so
I can't wait to hold you in my arms
Just you and I letting the world know
You are my woman forever.
Forever sounds so long but I'll wait for you
And hopefully you will wait for me
Because you'll know for true
How our love will honestly be
Priceless....

i pick up the pieces
in my life like a puzzle
i piece it together
the hurt and pain
one
by
one.
Broken Dreams, Broken Images
Torn.
Battered.
Forgotten and even cast aside
Like anything else
Or like some piece of garbage tossed
Thrown away
Tossed aside
Unreachable
Simply just unwanted.
Yet I still go on
Struggle by struggle
By broken dream by broken dream
By torn vision ofhope
That glimmer of hope becoming hopeless
Then hopelessness kicks in.
But yet I keep going in spite of
What's being said around me
I still go on even in pain I
Still go on even in hopelessness
I still go on even without joy I
Still go on struggle by struggle
I still go on even so
I still go on.....

Sky
Maybe
Somewhere up there
Skyward
High
Beyond the distant clouds
And stars
And moon
Maybe
Somewhere up there
Where planets hang in place
The Heavens above
Where Earth meet sky
And all in between
Of what there is
Sky.

My Star Poem
one star so bright, shine, shine through the dark night
i love to see you shine so
because i know
how lovely you are
how precious and yet so far
that lovely bright light shine among high
o lovely star
shining in the skies like christmas orentiments so lovely.
alas shining star, shining star,
i reach for you and you're so far
come to me, come down to me
and let us be friends.
dawn peeks over the hill now
awaking is the cock bringin' in a new day into town
the sun shines and stars are sleepin'
for a new day has come that God has made for us all.

Epilogue
in memory of Auntie Mildred
The race has won
Time be it no more
Answering God's Call
As the angels take me home
To my home on high
In the sky
My Lord in the sky.
I wave goodbye to all my friends
That I had along the way,
I wave goodbye she to my love ones
Some near and far,
I'm going home
To my heavenly home on high.
Mother she'll be there
Father I know he'll be there too
But when I meet the Master
Face to face,
I will shout in praise to Glory
My home on high.
The course is set,
The path is paved,
And I'll be ready to meet Him
My Savior and my Lord.
At rest I will be
In my new home
And body among high
Among high is home.
Home at last,
Home at last,
Forever home.
